2016 has been difficult. It’s been a turbulent year, a nauseating rollercoaster of intense emotions that have resulted in waves (or tsunamis) of what can only be described as the worst kind of inner conflict you can imagine. Almost everything has been affected by the extreme highs and desperate lows I’ve experienced this year, my…Continue Reading “How To Embrace Loneliness”

Spontaneity  Impulsiveness is a character trait often negatively associated with the inability to stick with the status quo. It’s so often associated with those deemed reckless, thoughtless, or downright ridiculous. Personally, I think spontaneity is a quality we should all wholly embrace. Impulsive decisions breed liberation from monotony and routine because it leads to new…Continue Reading “A Solo Trip To Paris”

When I was young, stupid and frankly a bit of an arsehole, I classed myself as an anti-feminist. Simply because I had no idea what feminism really was and what it meant for me as a young girl emerging into adolescence. I thought – naively – that it was some misandrist, hate-fuelled campaign against anyone…Continue Reading “Why You Shouldn’t Be Ashamed of Fakery”

They’re a luxury too often taken for granted: Sometimes they’re a chore you’d rather leave till later, a monotonous detail in a mundane…Continue Reading “Shower Thoughts”

when life passes you by

What career did you want to have when you grew up? Was it an astronaut? A movie star? A librarian? Whenever I was asked that question as a girl, I always answered with the first thing that came to my lips. A teacher. For unknown reasons it stuck with me throughout my childhood and seeped…Continue Reading “What It Feels Like To Watch Life Pass You By”

We all have down days, the ones where you wake up dreading the day before you. We all have those occassions where we just feel, well… sad. We all have those moments where we just need to let go of our emotions and have a good cry. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old,…Continue Reading “When It Feels Like You’re Drowning”

When I was a child, I wanted to be a writer. What kind of writer? I had no idea. I thought to be a ‘writer’ you had to be successful and to make mega bucks from physical copies of your work. When I was a child, I genuinely thought that my writing was good enough…Continue Reading “Why I Write”

Hair salon. Coloring.

I was 12 when I got my hair dyed for the first time. I sat in the salon chair in a local hairdresser, my mum in the adjacent seat, and I begged and begged for her to let me get my hair dyed because ‘everyone who’s anyone had dyed hair’. With my best interests at heart, she refused. I kicked up a fuss like a spoiled brat, akin to typical 12 year old behaviour. I begged some more. Eventually, my mum succumbed to my prepubescent, needy whinges. I entered that hair salon with a head of virgin blonde hair and left with head full of black hair with bleachy-yellowy streaks. In hindsight, it was a pretty tacky hair style – but you make mistakes to learn from them, right?
